BIM
Building Information Modelling
The application of BIM in the railway industry is still limited and exploratory. BIM is increasingly being used in new construction or large rail infrastructure change projects. However, the transfer to and use within the maintenance department is still largely undeveloped.
The challenge is to move from Building Information Modelling to Better Information Modelling for the entire life cycle of rail infrastructure. Periodically automated application of limit values to an updated BIM enables prediction of maintenance needs and maintenance planning.
Introduction and integration of processes concerning BIM require a careful and solid approach. There are multiple ways to success but also many expensive pitfalls.
From July 2020 to April 2021, Spocior defined, developed and successfully tested a track maintenance application in BIM in cooperation with Network Rail and Fugro. For details see TAB Smart Maintenance.
